Monday, January 13th kicks off a busy week for the Oldham County high school basketball teams and the Pegasus Sports Network. On Monday, 1/13/14, the South Oldham Dragons (11-2) host 8th region foe Grant County. Steve Simpson's Dragons are flying high after a dramatic come-from-behind win over Oldham County on Friday that puts the Dragons in the drivers' seat for the #1 seed in the 29th District with a 2-0 district mark. As always, the Dragons are a potent 3-point team; Drew Greenwood is hitting an amazing 52% from beyond the arc. Coach Brandon Grammar is in his first season at Grant County; his Braves are 5-8, but just ended a four-game losing streak by beating Walton Verona by 15. Aaron Hicks (15.3 ppg) and Seth Adkins (13.8 ppg) lead the Braves. Pegasus goes on the air with the pregame show at 7 pm. Scott Jaggers and Tom Hawkins have the play-by-play from Crestwood.
On Wednesday, 1/15/14, the North Oldham Lady Mustangs host the Henry County Lady Wildcats. North Oldham had a horrible start to the year, with multiple injuries that at one time left the team with just 6 healthy varsity players. But after re-shuffling their schedule, North is off to a pretty solid start. After winning their first three games, North has cooled a bit, but they still enter this week with a 4-4 record, which is very impressive considering the adversity that faced the team in December. North is also featuring a dramatically improved offense, averaging 51 ppg. As of Sunday 1/12/14 - through thirteen games, the Henry County Lady Cats (8-5) are off to their best start since the 2003-4 team opened 9-4. Coach Todd Gilley is one of the region's most savvy coaches, having been very successful at Oldham County and during a previous stint at Henry County. Pegasus goes on the air with the pregame show at 7 pm on Wednesday. Roger Frantz and Tom Hawkins have the call from Goshen.
The South Oldham Lady Dragons, 4-9 entering this week, will try to get over the hump after a tough seven game stretch in which they've gone 1-6. The task is challenging; ten of South's remaining fourteen games are on the road. On Tuesday, the Lady Dragons travel to New Albany, IN, before returning home for one of those four home games to face Male HS on Thursday, 1/16/14. Emma Sedoris, averaging a double-double of 10 ppg and 11 rebounds leads the Lady Dragons and is playing exceptionally well. She and the Lady Dragons will face a Male Lady Bulldog team that is 9-6 and has won three of their last four entering this week. Longtime Kentucky high school coach Champ Ligon - a former head coach of the boys' teams at Shelby County and Bryan Station, and an assistant for Manual's boys team last year - leads Male. Pegasus Sports goes on the air Thursday at 7 pm. Mike Montgomery and Tom Hawkins have the call.
On Friday, 1/17/14, the Pegasus Sports Network will broadcast a district 29 boys' seeding game as the North Oldham Mustangs travel to Buckner, KY, to play the Oldham County Colonels. The number one seed for the District 29 tournament is still in play - Oldham County could still claim the #1 seed if Oldham County can win at home, and if North Oldham later defeats both South Oldham and Trimble County. North Oldham - which hasn't played a district 29 game yet - holds their destiny in their own hands - wins over Oldham County, South Oldham, and Trimble County would give the Mustangs the #1 seed for the District 29 tournament in February, which will be played on the Mustangs' home court. Oldham County is trying to re-discover its offense - after scoring 70+ points in their first 10 games, the Colonels have scored under 60 in five of their last six. The Colonels, however, are still a solid 11-5 heading into this week. North expected to have a better record than their 6-8 mark heading into this week, but the Mustangs will be favored in games against Atherton and Spencer County this week, and could be all even at 8-8 and carrying some momentum into the Friday matchup. Pegasus goes on-air at 7 pm Friday 1/17/14 with the pre-game show. Mike Montgomery, Scott Jaggers, and Tom Hawkins have the all from Buckner.
